Seeing Jet Li fight Jet Li is worth watching the movie for alone.

The first Happy Death Day movie deals with a time loop, so it’s only natural that this sequel ups the stakes and puts a time loop in an alternate reality. Tree Gelbman must solve a mystery about a killer now going after her and her loved ones.

Sliding Doors is a rom-com that explores two timelines. In one, Helen Quilley catches her train in time and comes home to find her partner cheating on her. In another, she misses the train and her life goes on somewhat of a downward spiral.

This movie is based on David Wong’s novel of the same name. It’s a cult movie that sees a pair of friends take a drug that gives them the ability to shift through alternate dimensions. They get caught up in trouble that the name of the movie might give away. The way this movie messes with time is very interesting.

The DC animated movies are a thing of beauty and Crisis on Two Earths is a shining example of this. This movie sees the Justice League get invaded by evil versions of themselves from another universe who want to be the only variants to exist.

Source Code sees Jake Gyllenhaal play U.S. Army Captain Colter Stevens who uses a machine that can run a simulation based on the memories of dead people, to track down the identity of a bomber before another attack.

An MIT student lives in regret after crashing while drinking and driving, putting a man in a coma and killing his family. She discovers a way that she can get to an Earth from a different universe to make up for it but, as is often the way with alternate realities, things get tangled and complicated even further.

• Directed by: J.J. Abrams

Here, an alternate universe was used conveniently by J.J. Abrams as a tool to not mess with the lore and canon of Star Trek in a reboot, which fans appreciated. It’s well-balanced with characters from the old universe though and is one of the best uses of the multiverse out there.

Mr. Nobody explores the life of Nemo Nobody, a 118-year-old man who is the last mortal on the planet. He reminisces on his life and in particular, three different romantic partners of his, running through the possibilities of settling with each one, despite each one leaving him unfulfilled in some way.

• Directed by: Sam Raimi

The sequel to Dr. Strange’s origin story didn’t get the most rave reviews when it dropped, but part of that might have been a Marvel fatigue, because this is an incredibly fun film that’s worthy of the Multiverse Saga. What makes it fun on top of the multiversal aspects is Sam Raimi’s vintage horror beats that bring new flavour to the MCU.

Coraline is struggling to adapt to her new life and right on time, she finds a portal to an alternate universe right there in her house. At first, she’s happy because she finds what she thinks is a cooler version of her parents, but it comes with horrors she never could have imagined.

• Directed by: James Ward Byrkit

Coherence isn’t one of the better-known flicks on this list, but it’s easily one of the best. Without spoiling the concept, the movie sees some friends meet for a dinner party before a comet causes a power outage and strange chaos ensues. The film was shot over five days and actors weren’t told about certain events happening, which makes it feel all the more authentic and immersive for the viewer. The real fun in watching this movie is coming up with theories and spotting easter eggs in repeat showings.

If you haven’t seen or at least heard of this movie by now, you might be living in an alternate universe yourself. It gets really wacky with its use of the multiverse and still manages to tell a great core story that genuinely moves viewers. Evelyn Wang is recruited by her husband from another universe to stop an all-powerful threat. The scenes where she travels the multiverse easily make this one of the best multiverse movies.

Even a decade down the line, it might still be hard to believe what all the parties involved pulled off here, bringing three generations of Spider-Man to one big screen and letting Tom Holland’s iteration of the superhero truly become his own in a great trilogy. No Way Home sees Peter Parker recruit Dr. Strange to help him undo Mysterio’s villainous ways but the spell has some shocking side effects.

There’s nothing like a great Spider-Man story and upon release, fans immediately argued that this one could be the best of them all—if not also one of the best multiverse movies of all time. The multiverse aspects here are done really well but most importantly, they’re not relied upon to tell a heart-warming coming-of-age tale. The sequel is out on Friday and looks to expand the Spider-Verse in a way that only the biggest Spider-Man comic book nerds could have fathomed until now. We can’t wait!
