5 Sneakers To Watch Out For The Weekend of June 25th
Got some good ones this week
1. Nike Air Force 1 Low Swingman
Release Date: 6/25
Paying homage to Ken Griffey Jr. and his father Ken Griffey Sr., the “Swingman” is a baseball take on a classic silhouette, and one of those sneakers that are “simple,” but still dynamic in their own way. If you know anything about Ken Griffey Jr., then you know his swag was effortless. He never tried too hard, and his style and persona have always been reflected in his sneaker releases. The color of this shoe is similar to the Seattle Mariners team colors, and you can pick these up via Nike.
2. NERF X Pump Omni Zone II Light Jammer
Release Date: 6/25
If you grew up in the 2000s like myself, then this is a major throwback. Anytime I see anything NERF related, I automatically think of those Y2K Nickelodeon commercials, and playing outside during the summer. I guess since we are in the summer season, this is the perfect shoe to bring back the nostalgia, or pass down if you have children so that way they can experience the joy of your own childhood. The sneakers are covered in neon green and orange, and can apparently glow in the dark which is super cool. It may be the kid in me, but I think these are super dope. NERF and Reebok also have other colorways dropping this weekend that are worth checking out as well.
3. Nike Dunk Low WMNS Candy
Release Date: 6/25
It seems like we are getting all of the vibrant colors, patterns, and nostalgia this weekend, which I’m not mad at all. Some of us have had luck hitting on Dunks this year, while others (I.E myself) haven’t had much. Perhaps the tide will change with these? Either way I like these shoes a lot! Named “Candy,” the sneakers have a blend of what personally reminds me of cotton candy. I also think you could play around with the laces to customize the shoe to your liking if you are a “swap the laces” kind of sneakerhead. You could definitely experiment with light pink laces, and even try teal, baby blue, or variations of any of the colors included on the sneaker. This is a perfect carnival shoe in my opinion.
4. Ishod Wair x Magnus Walker Nike SB Dunk High
Release Date: 6/25
Magnus Walker doesn’t need an introduction. In addition to being a renowned designer, Walker is also an avid car collector, and is now teaming up with Ishod Wair to bring a vintage early 1970s high top inspired by his 1971 Porsche 91, which was nationally recognized in his Urban Outlaw documentary. These shoes are smooth, and I’ve always found 70s racing culture to be interesting. An underrated feature on this collab is the slight “dusty” (in a good way) look of the shoe. It makes you feel like you are actually at a race, and I like sneakers that capture that real time element.
5. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar x Adidas Forum
Release Date: 6/26
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Adidas are joining forces for an excellent cause. Abdul-Jabbar and Adidas will release a limited-edition Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Forum shoe in an effort to raise funds for his Skyhook Foundation. The sneakers are custom designed by Sneaker Customizers Factory8384, and will go for $1,000 each, and as mentioned before, 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Skyhook Foundation. The shoe will release at tomorrow’s Sneakercon, and is truly a beautiful silhouette that captures Abdul-Jabbar’s giving spirit, basketball success, style and creative nature.
That's all folks! As usual I will be back next week for a new roundup!
