Reebok and Eames Foundation Announce Classic Leather Release Date
Known for their work in fields ranging form furniture and architecture to film, Charles and Ray Eames were some of the most prolific American designers of all time. Classic designs like the Eames Lounge have made the husband-and-wife pair households names, their holistic approach to design continues to inspired today. In the same vein, Reebok seeks to channel that playful utilitarianism as the collaboration blends the Classic Leather's running DNA with tactile luxury.
As Charles Eames had once expressed, the job of “the designer is basically that of a good host— anticipating the needs of the guest.” Considering the shoe is a classic being released to a modern audience, the Eames Foundation and Reebok went to great lengths to ensure that the shoe stays true to its original 1983 release, while updating materials and process in a contemporary manner.
Each pair of shoes will retail for $120, with the 'Coloring Toy' colorway arriving first, on June 2. This release will be followed by the 'Rosewood' colorway on June 9, which is inspired by the the colors of the plywood shell on the Eames Lounge and Ottoman. These will be released June 20.
