8 Brooklyn Clothing Brands and Designers to Keep an Eye On
Just some recommendations
1. The Adventures of Grim Reaper J
Founded by Jadeja McFarlane, The Adventures of Grim Reaper J started as passion project fueled by an interest in design, and is now a full-blown clothing brand consisting of sneakers, hats, hoodies and more. With eye-catching unique designs that revive your inner child, the brand is an ode to all things adventure and going against the grain in every element of your life—never being afraid to go left when everyone else is going right. We profiled The Adventures of Grim Reaper J back in November 2022. You can check out the full interview with McFarlane here.
2. Dybbuk NY
Dybbuk NY is a multi-million dollar sneaker brand created by Donny the Dybbuk that was also started as a passion project. Having blown up with their Lucky 7s which was birthed out of the desire to pay homage to the skate community by recognizing them more fully than mainstream fashion, authenticity is the ethos of Dybbuk NY, priding themselves on the love and appreciation for skate apparel and fashion as a whole over anything else. While sneakers are the most recognized part of the Dybbuk brand, the company also offers exclusive apparel drops from time to time. Definitely worth supporting if you want to show some love to a Brooklyn-based brand.

3. Alex Crane
Honing in on minimalism and timeless silhouettes, Alex Crane is a brand with the goal of making you feel formal, breezy, and everything in between. Founded in 2017 by Alex Crane, the eponymous label is a sustainable one that puts innovative technology at the forefront. Evolving their model to a DTC one in order to personalize their relationships with consumers, "Feel Breezy" is the tagline that stays with Crane and his creations at all times. 4. U•NI•FORMBK
Creating styles that goes with their motto of "staying true to yourself," U•NI•FORMBK is a brand that pays homage to fashion by way of music, art, urban/street culture, and everyday life. The company has cool stand out pieces such as their Camo Phase 001 Zip Away Pants, Burgundy 001 Zip Away Pants, and their Phase 001 "Stay True" Rhinestone Hoodie all of which we call the three abels—comfortable, breathable, and affordable.
5. Spike's Joint
Created by the one and only Spike Lee, Spike's Joint is a Brooklyn-based brand that sells various outerwear pieces, memorabilia, tees, caps, and accessories. The legendary director has always been renowned for his street style, and while we love everything the company offers, we'd definitely have to say the Alpha Industries X Spike's Joint Flight Jacket and the X 30th Anniversary Crewneck Sweatshirt in honor of it being thirty years since the release of Malcolm X are our favorites.
6. Theophilio
Founded by Edwin Thompson, Theophilio carries clothing and accessories for both men and women, regularly incorporating Thompson's Jamaican heritage through its pieces while fusing together elements of NY fashion and culture. Contemporary RTW pieces that can accompany you from the office to the club are just one of the many elements that makes Theophilio a distinctive brand that should be on your watchlist.
7. June 79
June79 is a brand that gets down to the nitty gritty of tailored staples. Founded by fashion industry veteran Shawn Pean, the luxury fashion house commits to transforming European fabrics into unique tailored garments that are easy and comfortable to wear. Blending together European and Brooklyn heritage, quality and craftsmanship are the components that embody the brand's ethos. You can shop their latest drop here.
8. FLAN
When you think of the word flan, the tasty dessert is what automatically comes to mind, making FLAN an appropriate name for this Brooklyn brand that has been causing a stir due to their "tasty" clothing. Rooted in humor and good taste, the company was founded in 2017 by Peter Sholley and Jared Vinik and creates one-of-a-kind pieces that pay homage to cultural monuments, iconic figures, and...food. Our favorite from them is the Harvest Short Sleeve Button Down, but their entire lookbook is worth a look in our opinion.
