The Atlanta Braves have reached the World Series on ten separate occasions, winning four of them. Their four titles tie them for 9th winningest franchise in MLB history. The Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966, previously calling Boston home.
Their first World Series appearance was a four game sweep of the Philadelphia Athletics in 1914. None of the games were close during this series, and the Braves blew out the Athletics 13-3 in game four to win their first title.
They would later square off against the New York Yankees in back-to-back World Series in 1957 and 1958. In 1957, the Braves took down the Bronx Bombers in a tight seven game series. In 1958, the series again went seven games. However, this time the Yankees would get their revenge, breaking open a 2-2 tie in game 7 by rallying for four runs in the eighth inning to win.
The 1990's proved to be the Braves best era, with them reaching the World Series five times throughout the decade.
In 1991, they were defeated in 7 games by the Minnesota Twins, with the 7th and final game going to extra innings to settle the 0-0 tie before Gene Larkin hit a walk off single to send the Metrodome into a frenzy.
The following year (1992), the Braves would lose to the Toronto Blue Jays in six games. In the deciding game 6, Atlanta would again lose in extra innings with Dave Winfield hitting the go-ahead double in the 11th inning.
In 1995, Atlanta defeated the Cleveland Indians (now the Guardians) in six games. The following year (1996) they again participated in the Fall Classic against the Yankees, but lost four games in a row after winning games 1 and 2.
In 1999, the Braves ran in to the Yankees yet again, but this time they were no match and the Bronx Bombers swept them in four games.
The fourth and most recent Braves World Series victory was in 2021. To say the Braves were an underdog during that postseason would be an understatement. Atlanta had the worst record of any team in the playoffs, finishing the regular season 88-73. They somehow got past every National League team and squared off against a stacked Houston Astros club with rings on the line. However, they dominated the series, culminating in a game six 7-0 blowout to claim their fourth championship as a franchise.
