Soccer is probably the most popular international sport. With massive fan bases for clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, etc. there’s a massive need for coverage. Podcasts are perfect for that coverage, and there are a wide array of soccer podcasts around the world covering different topics and leagues. The topics range from in-depth analysis of the game, strategy, and players to behind the scenes stories about players’ careers, oral histories of classic games, and interviews with players and coaches.

There are so many good stories to tell in the sport. In looking at the massive boom in soccer podcasts, we took a look at some of the most popular and enjoyable listens out there. Here are our favorite soccer shows.

1. ‘Men In Blazers’

Started in 2010 through ESPN’s Grantland, Men In Blazers has become the ultimate soccer podcast that has crossed over into the mainstream. Hosted by Michael Davies and Roger Bennett, the show has built a cult-like following off of the hilarious inside jokes and banter between the British duo with strong chemistry. 

Plus, their guest list is unrivaled in the soccer podcast realm. Matthew McConaughey, John Oliver, and Kevin Bacon are just a few of the big names to sit behind Davies and Bennett for some real talk in the panic room.

2. ‘Gab & Juls Podcast’ on ESPN FC

Hosts Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens have developed a pretty good back and forth on the Gab & Juls Podcast. A part of the ESPN FC network, the podcast stands out because it’s a mainstream podcast, but the hosts try and spread their focus past some of the top-level clubs and spread their coverage to every team. The analysis on the podcast has a meat and potatoes type of flow in terms of the conversation. Just don’t expect anything negative to be said about Paris St. Germain.

3. ‘Football Weekly’ — The Guardian

The chemistry between Host Max Rushden and a range of contributors like Barry Glendenning spearheads the Football Weekly podcast into one of the top soccer podcasts around. A part of The Guardian network, Football Weekly ranges from the analysis of matches in the UK and Europe and serious topics to comedy all in one show. The podcast’s content heavily centers around the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and the Bundesliga. Though the show originally started with James Richardson—who left the show in 2017, the podcast has kept going with Rushden and has been one of the top listens for football fans.

4. ‘Peter Crouch Podcast’

A former soccer player in the Premier League, Peter Crouch started his podcast in 2018. Besides doing the robot, the former striker has shown podcasting as a skill we didn’t know he had. Crouch’s podcast does a great job of putting the listener on the field and explaining particular scenarios with the informality of a conversation between friends. He’s covered everything from where to sit on the team bus to perfecting the art of tackling in soccer. After announcing his retirement, Crouch has kept his podcast game strong, continuing to drop episodes on a regular basis.

5. ‘The Totally Football Show’

The Totally Football Show is one of the more popular soccer podcasts right now. Hosted by James Richardson, the show has a lighthearted personality with interesting takes on the EPL from various contributors and guests. Richardson has been covering soccer in a podcast for a long time. He previously hosted The Guardian’s Football Weekly from 2006-2017, before starting his own podcast in 2017 with Muddy Knees Media which he is a shareholder of. Come for the soccer takes, but stay for the random and often made movie references.

6. ‘The Gary Neville Podcast’

Gary Neville is one of the most decorated soccer players of all time. With eight Premier League titles and two Champions League titles, Neville accomplished more than most in a 19-year run with Manchester United. A former coach as well, Neville has delved into the media field, covering soccer for Sky Sports as an analyst.

The coverage from the podcast is essentially an extension of the illuminating details, information, and opinions that Neville provides while he covers matches for Sky. The episodes range in the 15, 20-minute mark so it’s a bite-size podcast with useful information and insight on the EPL.

7. ‘The 2 Robbies’

Hosted by NBC Sports analysts Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe, The 2 Robbies features deep analysis by the soccer duo on the latest affairs in the sport. The two former soccer players provide quality commentary and good insight on the English Premier League and all it has to offer. Both hosts do a great job of giving the listener a peek into the physical and mental aspect of the game. If you want to take a good look at one of the best leagues in the world, and also get insight from everyone to former players, referees, and coaches, this would be a must-listen.

8. ‘Caught Offside’

Featured on ESPN, Caught Offside is one of the most popular soccer podcasts out there. The hosts Andrew Gundling and JJ Devaney, the podcast covers everything from historical moments in soccer to the current stories going on around the world in soccer. Conversations about Zinedine Zidane’s last stand and the Wheel of Football Special—where the hosts discuss the best EPL players of the decade—stand out. It’s a great way for newer fans to acquire a better understanding of the game.

9. ‘The Total Soccer Show’

The duo of Taylor Rockwell and Daryl Grove has developed a strong rapport in the Total Soccer Show podcast. A part of The Athletic’s network of podcasts, TSS focuses primarily on US Men’s National Soccer Team, but they also discuss the Champions League, the Premier League, and Major League Soccer on the show. The show also features other contributors as they begin to shine a brighter spotlight on MLS in a way that not many other podcasts are doing right now.

10. ‘The Spanish Football Podcast’

Released every Monday, The Spanish Football Podcast is a delight. Hosts Sid Lowe and Phil Kitromilides have really good discussions about news and breakdowns of the clubs in La Liga. Since Lowe is a columnist in Spain and Kitromilides is a commentator, they both have a vast amount of experience covering soccer and it shows every week. There aren’t too many podcasts about La Liga, but this one is probably the best of the small group.

11. ‘Planet Futbol with Grant Wahl’

Well, when it comes to the combination of interviews, features, and soccer analysis, there aren’t many better podcasts in sports than Planet Futbol. Hosted by Grant Wahl and Luis Miguel Echegaray, Planet Futbol takes a deep dive through the soccer world and is very thorough. Wahl has been writing about soccer for over 20 years at Sports Illustrated, so he knows something about it. The vet has episodes that vary in topics through the whole soccer world


After Wahl was let go by Sports Illustrated recently, little is known about the future of the podcast. Still, it’s one of the best displays of melding together the present of soccer with its remarkable past.

12. Arseblog — ‘The Arsecasts’

Known as the original Arsenal Podcast, the Arseblog is the number one audio stop for anyone who is crazy about Arsenal’s Football Club. Started back in 2006, the show airs twice a week. An extension of the blog that covers Arsenal, the Arsecast covers everything under the sun when it comes to the world-famous club. Hosted by Andrew Mangan and James McNicholas, the show has built up a strong following with a mix of serious analysis about the soccer club, mixed in with levity and a pinch of swearing when necessary.

13. ‘The Football Ramble Daily’

Started with a couple of microphones and a MiniDisc player, the Football Ramble podcast has four hosts in Luke Moore, Pete Donaldson, Marcus Speller, and Jim Campbell. The foursome started the podcast back in 2007. It primarily consists of conversation and coverage of the English Premier League but also delves into some fo the other leagues around Europe.

Broadcasted six days a week, the show covers everything from classic looks at historical soccer matches to current events in soccer. The co-hosts all have a passion for the game and have had it for a long time.

14. ‘BBC World Football’

BBC does a great job of covering all stories from various backgrounds in the soccer world. Many of the episodes feature conversations with athletes and personalities around the soccer world. Hosted by Mani Djazmi, World Football focuses more on the stories behind the game and offers a different look at soccer.

There are a plethora of interesting tidbits that come out of the weekly interviews in this podcast. The recent episodes covering the coronavirus outbreak and its impact on players, their families and their daily lives are really captivating listens.

15. ‘The Cooligans’

Last year, two comedians came together to wax poetic about their favorite sport and found a hidden gem. Comedians Alexis Guerrero and Christian Polanco started The Cooligans podcast with a comedic take on US Soccer and the MLS. If you want to hear about fade haircuts gone wrong or how a Cuban and a Dominican fell in love with the game of soccer, this is for you. Their podcast has led to a twice a week show on Fubo TV. The only way is up for the comedy duo.
