TWA Hotel and City Pickle joined forces to create a first of it's kind pop-up pickleball court at JFK airport. The TWA Hotel is a hotel located inside JFK airport. The hotel uses the interior of the iconic TWA Flight Center, made famous by the 2002 Steven Spielberg classic Catch Me If You Can. The hotel has been open since May of 2019 and offers several experiences like an infinity swimming pool and an aviation history museum.
Organized by City Pickle, NYCs best for anything pickleball, the pop-up event took place across several weekends from November 4th to November 13th. The court was set up on the hotel's tarmac in front of the iconic 1958 Lockheed Constellation “Connie” L-1649A plane. Playing right outside one of the most historic hotels in the US goes to show how versatile and accessible this game really is.
If you weren't able to make the pop-up there's no need to fret because City Pickle has something big in the works for 2023. On-top of pushing the boundaries of where pickleball can be played, City Pickle is in the process of opening their first permanent pickleball location in Long Island City. The space is set to open sometime in 2023 and will offer heated courts, full bar and restaurant, and other amenities to enhance your pickleball experience.
