Four St. Patrick's Day Drinks You Didn't Know You Needed

It’s the time of year that we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. While other places around the world celebrate in a calmer, more civilized manner, in the US though it has become an annual celebration of parties, drinking alcohol, and creating memories (whether they are good or bad) with your friends.

Unfortunately though, not everyone wants to celebrate by drinking green beer, shots of Jameson, or endless amounts of Irish Car Bombs.  Some of us want to have a good time without drinking things we may not enjoy.  So I put together a list of 4 alternatives to check out if the classics aren't cutting it!

1. Irish Coffee

  • 1 cup of freshly brewed coffee
  • 2 oz Irish Whiskey
  • 1 oz maple syrup

Stir ingredients

Top with freshly whipped cream

The fuel you need on St. Patricks Day. Most who celebrate every year know that a lot of us start very early in the day. Not only is this drink delicious, but it will keep the energy levels high throughout the day without allowing you to fall behind the party.

2. St. Patrick’s Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary Mix:

  • 3 cups Tomatillo Juice
  • 3 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 3 table spoons Lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons horseradish
  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon green chili hot sauce
  • ½ teaspoon crack pepper
  • ⅓ cup pickle brine

4 parts Bloody Mary Mix to Vodka

Garnish with slices of corned beef, a fresh oyster, and smoked salmon.

Who says all Bloody Mary’s have to be red? This variation will be as delicious, if not better, than any you have had in the past. Add in a small meal as a garnish and your morning has prepared you for the long day ahead!

3. Shamrock Lemonade

  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 1.5 oz lemon juice
  • 1.5 simple syrup
  • 2 drops green food coloring
  • Fresh Mint

Shake everything up with crushed ice

Serve in a pint glass and top with club soda!

It’s not cold everywhere on this holiday, so something refreshing may be up your alley. This extremely light and fun drink will not only make sure that you are staying festive, but will keep you cool while you're outside!

4. The Irish Sour

  • 2 oz Irish Whiskey
  • 1 egg White
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup

Shake vigorously to allow everything to emulsify

Pour over crushed ice

Garnish with orange, lime peel and a couple dashes of orange bitters on top.

While it seems like there are less of these kinds of cocktails consumed, this is for the sophisticated St. Patrick’s Day celebration. A whiskey sour is one of my all time favorite cocktails and this version of it may be the best I have come up with!
