From Academy Award nominee Taylor Sheridan, “1883” is the prequel to the critically acclaimed mega-hit Yellowstone, and follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains towards the last bastion of untamed America. Yellowstone stars a very talented cast including LaMonica Garrett, who shines as Thomas, a cowboy, a former enslaved person, and an American Civil War Vet – serving as a Buffalo Soldier (African American soldiers who mainly served on the Western frontier) in the war.

ONE37pm Has A Conversation With "1883" Star LaMonica Garrett
1883 premiered on December 19, 2021, and will resume production this month. Garrett also has his hands full with the upcoming thriller drama series The Terminal List for Amazon, where he stars opposite Chris Pratt as Commander Fox, a strong institutionalist who never loses sight of the greater mission. With 1883 off to a hot start, and The Terminal List slated for debut this year, Garrett has a lot to look forward to. We spoke to the actor last week about his success.
ONE37pm: Congratulations on the 1883 role! How was it auditioning for the project?
Garrett: It was unique! There were a lot of auditions that had to be done on tape because of the pandemic, which is rare because auditions for roles like these are typically conducted in person. I was fortunate enough to get the job, and actually had to attend cowboy camp for five straight months! It was funny because I only packed a bag for like a few weeks, but I ended up needing months full of stuff. I was underprepared, but it was great. Cowboy camp was fun!
ONE37pm: Are you guys still in production?
Garrett: We’re still going! We’re back on January 2nd to finish up. We’re starting to see the light.
ONE37pm: You also have another show that you recently completed called The Terminal List, could you talk to us a little more about that?
Garrett: I actually found out that I got 1883 on the last day of filming The Terminal List in Puerto Rico. It was right up my alley as far as action, and working with Chris Pratt was an amazing experience. I’ve been blessed to work on two big projects pretty much back to back.
ONE37pm: Final Question. What are your plans for the holiday and new year?
Garrett: I’m going to be staying home with the family. I’ve missed the last six months with them, and I want spending more time at home to be a priority. I would love my next project to be something that is in L.A., but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. It’s going to be hard to top 1883 and The Terminal List!
