On June 7, Gunna straight owned NYC. I know, I was on stage with the rapper.
Gunna's ability to be confident without coming off as cocky is his biggest asset as he ascends to the top of the emerging artist scene.
During his sold-out show at NYC's legendary SOB's, the emcee performed as if he'd been commanding a stage for far longer than the few months that he'd been on the road. I watched the crowd rally behind "Sold Out Dates," "Almighty," "Top Off" and "Drip or Drown." Gunna regulated their reactions with every line he delivered.
This Young Thug protégé and Southside, Atlanta artist's Drip Season mixtape series is more than partially responsible for the current popularity of the word 'drip,' an expression being used in not only hip hop, but an international genre that borrows heavily from it—Latin trap.
So, what's next for Gunna? From what I hear, the Atlanta emcee plans to turn things up a notch by releasing the sequel to his Drip or Drown EP, executively produced by Wheezy (Lil Baby, "Yes Indeed" Feat. Drake).
I'm excited for what we don't know yet…
