The ongoing One Piece saga has been told in video game form via fighting games, Musou beat 'em ups, and even a surprisingly decent open-world action/adventure game. Now we're getting a shockingly deep turn-based RPG that brings Monkey D. Luffy and The Straw Hat Pirates crew to an entirely new island full of fresh characters to meet & new treks to embark on. The battle system seems to be the most interesting, along with a plot that's been specifically put in place for this game. One Piece Odyssey gives off Dragon Quest vibes, which is why we can't wait to play it and made sure to throw it on this list of our most anticipated games of 2023.

Fire Emblem Engage is doing its part to push toward the future while making sure to show proper respect to the series' past. The inclusion of a new element called "Emblem Rings" means you'll get to call upon the aid of several past warriors. We're eager to pull off some flashy super moves in battle with the likes of Roy, Lyn, Eirika, and more. The turn-based, grid-based strategy RPG mechanics of Fire Emblem are returning in this new franchise entry, which we've always appreciated and can never get tired of. Nintendo is coming out the gate strong as soon as the new year begins, huh? The Nintendo Switch is going to please strategy RPG fans greatly with this pick on our list of the most anticipated games of 2023.

Forspoken comes from the Square Enix development studio Luminous Productions, who's most known for developing Final Fantasy XV. It's interesting to see the studio tackle a wholly original IP, which happens to feature the writing talents of Amy Hennig (Uncharted). Forspoken features a narrative incorporating the age-old theme of a person from a modern world getting transported to an ancient realm filled with magic. At the heart of this game's story is Frey Holland, who's transported the flashing lights of New York City to the wide-open plains of Athia. And from the looks of it, zipping through that fantasy world is going to be a great time thanks to Frey's high mobility and expert usage of elemental magic spells.

Isaac Clarke is coming back to dissect some hideous Necromorphs once again. But this time, he'll be revisiting his first foray into the horrors produced by the mysterious Black and Red Markers in a Dead Space remake. It's nice to know Electronic Arts and Motive Studios are clearly putting their all into making sure this remake is on par with Capcom's Resident Evil remakes. The footage of this Dead Space revival looks amazing and perfectly encapsulates the original survival-horror vibes the first game presented so well. Issac will actually get to speak as it's been reported that his voice actor (Gunner Wright) from the second and third Dead Space games is coming back to reprise his role. So we just know this remake is going to be even more immersive now that Issac will speak on all the horrifying occurrences happening around him.

How can you not be exhilarated by a AAA Harry Potter game that lets you map out your own student's legacy within the famous Wizarding World? The fact that Hogwarts Legacy takes place before all the crazy events between Voldemort and Harry means we're free to map out our own journey without being connected to the Wizarding World's biggest conflict. Getting to choose our Hogwarts House, exploring famous locales such as the Forbidden Forest, and learning the ins & outs of spell casting are the sorts of activities we can't wait to hop into. Hogwarts Legacy looks to be another licensed game from WBIE that's going to be a smash hit.

We never thought we'd see Koei Tecmo and Electronic Arts join forces, but here we are. And to be quite honest, we're kind of happy they made this partnership happen since it's resulting in the creation of a Monster Hunter competitor called Wild Hearts. Development studio Omega Force (which has previously worked on a monster-hunting series called Toukiden) is behind this one and it looks amazing. The fantastical Kemono beasts you'll contend with are unsurprisingly massive, fierce, and unrelenting. Relying on the usage of powerful Karakuri weapons and gadgets to keep up with those monsters looks pretty interesting in action. The three-player co-op is yet another reason why we have Wild Hearts on our list of the most anticipated games of 2023.

What was once referred to as Yakuza has now taken on the franchise moniker of Like a Dragon. And now one of its cooler spinoffs is finally coming over from its home of Japan as a gorgeous remake to boot. Like a Dragon: Ishin! goes back...wayyyyyyy back to the samurai era for an adventure that takes fan-favorite characters and turns them into real-world historical figures. We're excited to hop into this one since we know the story is going to be full of insane twists and turns, plus we're keen on trying out the many combat options available to Sakamoto Ryōma (Wild Dancer looks like the most fun battle style we're going to rely on the most!). Like a Dragon: Ishin! is one of those cool remakes that deserves to be on our list of the most anticipated games of 2023.

Have you guys played the demo for this one? It was pretty dammed good, right? Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty looks, sounds, and plays like an evolution of everything Team Ninja's Nioh games. What sets this game apart from that series is its reliance on traversing the Three Kingdoms period of China and doing so while coming up against more fantastical foes. The combat is what truly has us excited to dive in - your custom warrior can pull off some sick melee combos, last-minute parries, and elemental specials that call upon the assistance of "Divine Beasts." We know we're gonna die in this one...like, a lot. But we're still excited to hop into another "Soulslike" experience crafted by Team Ninja.

Yep, we gotta hype up another "Soulslike" game that's coming our way in 2023. 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order arrived and ended up being way better than expected - Cal Kestis' arduous journey around the galaxy as a Jedi fugitive proved to be tough yet wholly engaging. Now he's making his return in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as a grizzled lightsaber wielder who must stay ahead of the Galactic Empire. This sequel excites us since Kestis' combat options will now open up and even let him wield a blaster. We can't wait to take amazing leaps of fate, cut down our foes with a double-blade lightsaber, and listen to cute little bloops & blips from BD-1.

Are we disappointed that Resident Evil – Code: Veronica STILL hasn't gotten a remake? Yes! But are we hyped beyond belief for this Resident Evil 4 remake? YES! Leon S. Kennedy makes his return once again in remake form in a darker and even more gruesome take on one of the greatest survival horror games of all time. The third-person gameplay style featured in the last two series remakes looks to strengthen what we are used to from the original RE4, plus the story elements look to be a bit more serious and scarier than we remember. And due to the fact that the Merchant is back in all his glory, this big-budget remake of Resident Evil 4 pops up on our list of the most anticipated games of 2023.

Fam...Dead Island 2 was revealed all the way back at E3 2014! Its development woes have been long documented up until this point. Just when it seemed like this game was on the verge of becoming vaporware, development studio Dambuster Studios re-revealed it and showed off something that actually looks pretty great. The game's main locale of Los Angeles looks like a total blast to explore, the melee gameplay looks & sounds as meaty as we hoped it would be, and the more humorous aspects of the first game are thankfully still present in this sequel. We have a lot of high hopes for Dead Island 2 and are expecting it delivers a happy ending after such a s troubled development cycle.

The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild is regularly referred to as one of the greatest games of all time. And deservedly so because it offers an incredible immersive open-world experience that fits hand in hand with The Legend of Zelda's gameplay template. The sequel is on the way and looks like a vast improvement over a game that most folks already consider a perfect 10. The ideas that sadly weren't incorporated in the first game and DLC may just get implemented into this upcoming follow-up. The ability to venture above the clouds gives us Skyward Sword vibes, plus the darker tone we've seen in the past couple of trailers takes us back to the days of Majora's Mask. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is surely going to be a 2023 Switch gem.

Amanda Waller's infamous "Task Force X" has a supremely tough task ahead of them - eliminate every member of DC's strongest superhero squad. Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark are forced to venture into Metropolis to handle this tall task while simultaneously fending off Brainiac & his killer bots. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's maniacal gameplay has us giddy with glee - we're so ready to smash and blast a bunch of our foes while our online buddies provide us with backup. Captain Boomerang can teleport, Deadshot's armory is extensive, Harley Quinn is quite masterful with her bat in hand, and King Shark can damn near bite through anything & anyone. This co-op-centric action/adventure developed by Rocksteady Studios looks so ill!

Just look at the roster of wrestlers that have gotten an HD 16-bit for this game! We never knew we wanted a wrestling-themed RPG until we locked eyes with this game and its party of 80s & 90s legends. Everything about WrestleQuest looks so cool - it features a fun storyline centering on a wrestling rookie's climb to the main event, Super Mario RPG-like active turn-based RPG mechanics, and a bunch of fantastical elements that take the action beyond the ring. This turn-based RPG that takes place in the squared circle has us ready to drop an elbow on some bums! It's well deserving of being added to our list of the most anticipated games of 2023.

We're not the only ones that let the theme song for this game rock the whole time before we actually decide to play it, right? That super catchy tune and damn near everything else about Street Fighter 6 has us so ready to catch several W's off of its online community. Capcom's fighting game architects have gone all out to refresh their long-running Street Fighter franchise with a more striking visual presentation, three control methods for all sorts of players, and fresh roster additions that fit right in with the rest of the game's "World Warriors." The fighting mechanics feel great and look even greater when you're watching it as a spectator. And the single-player adventure mode that lets you roam the world and master different special moves along the way presents Street Fighter 6 as a proper evolution of the biggest fighting game series of all time.

Yes, we're scared to death of how Blizzard will handle the microtransaction for this game. But after pouring an unhealthy amount of time into Diablo III, we're very much looking forward to investing even more hours into its sequel. Diablo IV continues the neverending struggle between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. And as always, dedicated dungeon explorers will get embroiled in that war by playing as their preferred class to do some extensive battling and looting. Moving through the realm of Sanctuary looks like it'll be a fittingly volatile undertaking - we're confident we'll survive its demonic dangers as either the beefy Barbarian or undead-summoning Necromancer.

We trust and believe in Naoki Yoshida aka "Yoshi P." The man is responsible for righting the ship of Final Fantasy XIV and helping it thrive in its current state (A Realm Reborn) as Square Enix's premier MMORPG. And as the producer for the next mainline entry in the legendary RPG franchise, we think he has it in him to hit another home run. Final Fantasy XVI has so much going for it - a return to medieval fantasy trappings, mature storytelling, blood, a focus on Summons, etc., are some of the main attributes worth mentioning. The action RPG sensibilities have us the most excited as it looks to offer extravagant melee and magic combat that we can't wait to master. We can't wait to take control of Clive Rosfield!

Development studio Teyon seems to have a thing for turning 80s action movie properties into proper first-person shooters. They've already produced Rambo: The Video Game (ugh...) and Terminator: Resistance (YAY!). Now they're prepared to take on another popular big-screen icon for their next project - RoboCop. And from what we've seen thus far, it looks like it'll be way better than a lot of gamers expect. RoboCop: Rogue City visuals look quite stunning - running around and upholding the law in RoboCop's gleaming armor around the crime-ridden streets of Old Detroit will hopefully be just as fun as it is visually appealing. This FPS has a lot of potential to be great, which is why it's on our list of the most anticipated games of 2023.

Remedy Entertainment has done some strong work in the area of third-person shooters. The first two Max Payne games and Control are proof of that. Alan Wake is another one of the studio's memorable projects and now the studio is looking to take things up a notch on the scary scale for its sequel. Alan Wake II is going even harder to freak players out as it's going deep into survival horror elements. If it features even more refined shooting mechanics, a larger variety of terrifying foes to shoot, and some shocking moments that'll stay with us long after we've beaten it, then this sequel will fulfill the high expectations we have for it.

Team Reptile has a thing for crafting stylish games, as evidenced by the Lethal League series. Now they're applying their love of visually flamboyant experiences to this Jet Set Radio spiritual successor. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk joints our list of the most anticipated games of 2023 because it looks and sounds like everything we've ever wanted from a sequel to one of Sega's most underrated IPs. The cel-shaded art style immediately grabbed our attention and the gameplay footage we've been treated to is managing to keep it. We're hyped to see how all the rollerblading, extreme bike riding, and graffiti tagging will feel once Bomb Rush Cyberfunk finally comes out.

You know, it's kinda funny. After this Suikoden spiritual successor was announced, Konami followed it up by announcing an HD remaster for the series in the form of Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars. We're sure that the new and improved collection is going to be great, but we're a bit more excited to see how this brand-new strategy RPG turns out. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is looking to replicate everything fans love about Suikoden - it has 100+ playable party members to recruit and master, anime-inspired 2D visuals, and a plot focused on a war-torn world. Once we've poured enough time into Fire Emblem Engage, we're going to spend just as much time in this strategy RPG.

Will Square Enix really do the unthinkable and drop TWO major Final Fantasy games in 2023? Fingers crossed that it manages to pull off that amazing feat! We've been dying to see where the Final Fantasy VII remake saga goes next and now we know it's going to get even crazier with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. We have so many questions about this much-anticipated follow-up - how will the open-world mechanics feel? Will the plot change even more based on the ending of the first chapter of the remake? And will we be able to retain our levels and abilities or will we have to start from scratch? We can't wait to get answers to those burning questions, plus we're more than ready to do some damage as a playable Red XIII (and hopefully Yuffie and Cid!).

Granblue Fantasy: Versus was the first salvo from Cygames that was meant to bring global attention to the Japanese publisher/developer's mobile gacha RPG. And now that American gamers have become a lot more familiar with Gran and the rest of the gang, Cygames is ready to throw them all into a much grander project. That project goes by the name of Granblue Fantasy: Relink, which is a massive action RPG that fully realizes the mobile game within a AAA game experience. The game's anime art style truly comes to life here as players embark on an epic journey across the game's many varied locales. Running around various biomes with friends and vanquishing all manners of beasts are the main activities featured in Relink. And based on everything we've been shown thus far, both those activities look to be a blast!

All we've seen from this sequel to Insomniac Games 2018 classic is a teaser trailer, yet it was enough to get us amped up to suit up as Spidey once again. Peter Parker's alter-ego can be seen sporting his "Iron Spider" armor back stingers, Miles Morales is back to shocking his foes right alongside his fellow web-crawler, and the symbiote-powered Venom is finally popping up in this game's universe. We're very much looking forward to seeing how Kraven the Hunter plays into the overall plot and if there will be some co-op gameplay elements put in place since two Spideys will be swinging around NYC together. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 definitely deserves to be on our lineup of the most anticipated games of 2023.

DotEmu has done a bang-up job thus far producing modern-day 2D sequels and remakes for beloved 90s franchises. Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, Windjammers, and Streets of Rage 4 points to the publisher/developer's dedication to reviving quality retro gems. SNK has clearly taken note of DotEmu's fine work thus far, which is probably why they decided to allow them to work on a new Metal Slug game. And to everyone's surprise, this new series entry is a tactical RPG that retains the beloved 2D pixelated visuals fans have come to adore. We never knew we wanted a game like this until it was revealed, so now we're all in on this cool side project. It's time to get the Peregrine Falcons back together and take down Donald Morden once again!

Are we finally due for some major updates regarding one of Telltale Games' best releases? We sure hope so! The Wolf Among Us is a shining example of the once defunct and now fully revived development studio's mastery of adventure games. This sequel is bringing back one of our favorite characters in "The Big Bad Wolf" Bigby and returning him to his crime-solving ways in the tumultuous city of Fabletown. Something tells us this project won't be split up into chapters that release months after each other - we're placing our bets on The Wolf Among Us 2 releasing as a fully finished product that'll feature the same impactful decisions and jaw-dropping moments of its predecessor.

Even with the conflict going on between Russia and Ukraine, the Ukrainian development studio GSC Game World has stayed intact in an effort to keep working on its loftiest project to date. The latest footage for this highly immersive FPS has us even more excited to navigate every corner of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. As the 27th pick on this list of our most anticipated games of 2023, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl sticks out due to just how stunning it looks. Confronting human threats while also being forced to fend off more supernatural forces looks like it'll be an engrossing activity that'll keep us extra busy with this one.

Publisher/developer NEOWIZ must have seen the lack of any news regarding a Bloodborne remaster or even a sequel and gone "fine...we'll do it ourselves." Lies of P embraces the dark, brooding world and ruthless deformities that test your skills in combat of the "Soulslike" games while offering a creepier take on the story of Pinocchio. Turning that iconic puppet into a fully human boy won't be filled with cheery song-and-dance numbers this time around - we can't wait to cut down all sorts of inhuman foes in the fallen city of Krat. Plus we've already become comfortable with the threat of dying over and over, so we're ready to embrace whatever Lies of P wants to throw at us. And with that, that's our full lineup of the most anticipated games of 2023.

Arkane Studios Austin has us fully prepared to take down a severe vampiric army with our co-op teammates in 2023. Redfall looks to be our next online multiplayer FPS addiction as it gears towards four players taking the fight to evil humans and vampires in a massive open world. Based on Arkane's previous FPS works, such as Dishonored and Prey (2017), we're very much expecting Redfall to offer excellent gunplay right alongside a meaningful story that pushes us to save the good people of Redfall, Massachusetts. WE CALL FIRST DIBS ON LAYLA!

All Elite Wrestling is finally ready to drop its very first home console video game. And after hearing about its continued development on behalf of Yuke's, we can't wait to smash our foes into the mat just like the good old days. AEW Fight Forever is looking to replicate the greatness of N64 wrestling games such as WWF No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling. The footage we've seen from the game thus far seems to confirm that's exactly what we're getting here. Arcadey in-ring fun that lets us pull off some impactful moves as stars such as Kenny Omega, CM Punk, and Jade Cargill sounds like a great time to us.
