Aragami was originally released in 2016 but ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2019 and Amazon Luna in 2020. Ghost Of Tsushima was, for many people’s money, the best game of 2020. It has a beautiful, vibrant world that’s a pleasure to ride through on horseback and like Assassin’s Creed, it’s set in a time period from hundreds of years ago. Also like Assassin’s Creed, you can choose to enter battles stealthily or by making your presence known at first. In fact, it’s one of the key factors in the story.

This is a no-brainer for fans of Assassin’s Creed. The pace of Agent 47 is often slower than most of the AC protagonists, but the tools at your disposal when going out on hits makes for a great experience. Hitman 3 improves greatly upon its predecessor, adding more and more insane ways to get your kill. 

Although on paper it’s a different offering to an Assassin’s Creed game, a lot of the makeup of Horizon Zero Dawn is similar to the AC series. The combat, movement mechanics, and the way you have to explore and advance the story will definitely give you flashbacks. You play as Aloy, a hunter in a world that has been taken over by machines, that tries to uncover her past.

Developed by Avalanche Studios Group, Mad Max is a game based on the movie franchise of the same name. The main similarities to Assassin’s Creed here are in the combat, which can be aggressive or stealthy, and the progression system. The game itself doesn’t feel exactly like AC, with much of the gameplay revolving around vehicular combat.

Hideo Kojima’s conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series was received very well by both fans and critics. The game boasts some of the best open-world design out there and give the player a great amount of freedom to explore it. What Assassin’s Creed fans will love here is the stealthy combat which takes place against some of the better A.I. out there, making for far more dynamic combat.

For fans of not only Assassin’s Creed, but The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings, Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor is a great choice because it takes place in the same universe, hence the name. J.R.R. Tolkien’s imagination makes for a great backdrop for this game and the orcs here feature unique skills.

The original Mirror’s Edge comes from the same era of gaming as the original Assassin’s Creed game. Catalyst is a reboot of that game and one that received mixed reviews for varying reasons. One thing that was barely up for contention though was how great the parkour mechanics are. For Assassin’s Creed fans that like the parkour there, this first-person version of that will be loved.

Although you’re fighting some very different enemies in Monster Hunter: World, it features some key mechanics from Assassin’s Creed like going to vantage points, keeping track of your enemy, and actually taking a step away from the battle to heal and come in with a different strategy. This is the highest-selling game in Capcom history for good reason.

Some of the more recent Assassin’s Creed games have taken a more traditional RPG approach with elements like the progression system, upgrades, and even storytelling mechanics. Many of these games borrow From Software’s combat system used in titles like Bloodborne and Dark Souls, some of the most critically acclaimed RPGs out there. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is one of the more recent From Software games, making it a good choice for fans of Assassin’s Creed games of recent years. You only need to have played one or two of the Tomb Raider games for you to know what you’re getting into with one. Shadow Of The Tomb Raider offers many of the same things, like acrobatic movement, stealth kills, combat with various kinds of weaponry, and a whole lot more. It’s not crazy to say that the early Tomb Raider games from the 90s, at least in a roundabout way, influenced the first Assassin’s Creed games.

Released in 2019, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is set five years after the events of Revenge Of The Sith. You play as Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who is hunted by the Galactic Empire and must uncover some dark truths. The combat initially relies on Assassin’s Creed-like movements like parries and dodges, before the Force abilities come into play.

Skyrim is of course an RPG and one of the more famous ones of all time, so it’s an especially spot-on pick for those that like the more recent AC games like Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla. Admittedly, Skyrim is a little slower-paced than those games, but perhaps it’ll be a welcome change. You probably already know by now that Breath Of The Wild is heralded as one of the best games of all time. If there’s any kind of reason to put this game on a list, we always will. This time, we recommend it for Assassin’s Creed fans for its epic open world and how fun it is to take a break from the story just to explore it. The RPG elements at play here also make for an experience that feels rewarding and like progression is sincerely happening, not just with statistics, but with mechanics like being able to climb higher structures as your stamina increases. Being able to climb anything you see is a feeling AC fans relish and that’s present here.

For fans of Assassin’s Creed who enjoy the multiple side missions accessible to players at any given time in addition to the vast main story, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt offers the same flexibility. This is another RPG that’s widely regarded as one of the best out there, so fans of the latter AC games will feel right at home.

Developed by Eidos-Montréal, who also did Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, Thief is a reboot of the old-school series that you might be familiar with. You play as Garett, the titular thief who steals from the rich. Like in Hitman games, the game is split into various missions where you can choose to be silent and stealthy or as loud and lethal as you wish. Level design is great here, with a bunch of places to hide, but that’s balanced out with smart A.I. who knows to check many of those places, making for a fun challenge. 

Simply put, the entire Uncharted series, like the Assassin’s Creed series, is one of the best and most rewarding experiences in gaming. No, there’s no open world to explore freely here, but like Assassin’s Creed, the gameplay comes first, and climbing up mountains, rolling away from incoming fire, and swinging from a rope to kill some enemies is a hell of a lot of fun. We definitely recommend playing the first three games in the series first and you can do that with The Nathan Drake Collection, but if you want to just jump in and have fun the same way you did with an AC game, you can do that too.

Last but not least, from the same developers that brought you almost every Assassin’s Creed out there, Watch Dogs 2. Yes, Ubisoft handled this game so a lot of the formula you see in AC gets reused here, albeit in a game that’s more similar to Grand Theft Auto V than anything else. The parkour system for example is pretty similar, but instead of old Roman buildings or the pyramids, you’re climbing modern buildings. Instead of eavesdropping on conversations, here you can hack mobile phones and security cameras. It makes a welcome change whilst living in the same world as AC.
