High Spots: The combined triumvirate (had to get in my Webster's Dictionary bag on y'all real quick!) of WWE Champion Big E and title contenders Seth Rollins & Kevin Owens have given me much to enjoy on a largely unenjoyable show lately. As soon as this edition of Raw got underway, we got a Steel Cage match between Big E and Owens that provided further evidence of their continued excellence on Monday nights. They had a damn good big boy clash that saw Owens land a clean-ass moonsault while positioned near the cage and a finish that saw Big E clean KO's clock with a Big Ending off the top rope. After Big E escaped the cage and left with his title intact, Seth Rollins got in his licks on both guys for a bit...but that assault ended up being all for naught as Big E beat the holy hell out of him and even Owens for extra emphasis. But during the commercial break, Bobby Lashley made his return to practically demolish all three men with absolute ease. So it's clear to everyone and their grandmother that Bobby's getting added to the WWE title match on Day 1, right? If so, then that's a hell of a way for WWE to kick off the new year!
I'm still tryna wrap my head around what exactly an RK-Bro-nament is for. I'm not gonna stress myself out doing so - instead, I'm just gonna take in the match quality between this tourney's participants. The Street Profits vs. AJ Styles & Omos was a cool little piece of business for the time it was given. The main reason I was sucked into that whole deal was the apparent breakup that's brewing between AJ and Omos. Omos' count-out screwup for his team forced AJ to give him an earful, which caused the big man to turn his back on his man's. If that leaves AJ to get back to singles competition sooner rather than later, then that's a dream come true! As for Omos, having him run around Raw all on his own is quite the risk to take! I feel like he could have used some more fine-tuning before going solo.
Shinsuke Nakamura should be ashamed - while he's playing air guitar alongside Rick Boogs looking like a complete joke, Damian Priest is out here going Super Saiyan mode and proudly taking down all contenders for his US Championship. Damian had himself another fine showing as he took on Robert Roode. It's easy to forget how good Roode is (especially when you remember his "Glorious" NXT run!), so it was nice to see him rekindle his singles greatness here. Damian had an awesome dancing partner here that resulted in both men having a dope midcard championship encounter. Bianca Belair finally got herself a worthy opponent! Piper Niven stepped up to the "EST" and actually gave me a women's match worth investing in on this damn show. Piper's disrespect of Bianca's hair set me off, I'm not even gonna lie! Bianca's jaw-dropping power almost put Piper out to pasture, but Piper escaped her grasp and bailed on the match. I think we know the deal here - they're both gonna run this back on Day 1! And I'm all the way here for it.
Edge and The Miz got into a verbal altercation once again. And this time, it was on Miz TV. Beyond Edge's roasting of Miz's choice in footwear, I was treated to some serious callbacks to both men's history in the company that added more fuel to their newfound feud's fire. The Miz went on about Edge not pulling him aside to help him during his tough upbringing in the company, while Edge mentioned the fact that Miz actually brushed him off when he tried to do just that. All that jaw-jacking between the two led to them getting booked for a match on January 1...wait my bad, Day 1! That mic slip from The Miz was hilarious, I gotta say. Did it sadden me to see T-BAR take yet another L on Raw? Yeah. But at least the match he competed in against Finn Bálor was halfway decent. Side note - a match between those two would kick ass back on one of those NXT 1.0 TakeOver shows! After Finn got the win, Austin Theory attacked him from behind and took an obligatory selfie right next to his fallen body. I'ma need that match on Day 1 is all I gotta say!
